Castle Hill

Yesterday we spent the day at Castle Hill, about 1 hour, 20 minutes drive from Christchurch. Castle hill is an outcrop of weathered sandstone rocks close to the alpine range of the South Island. It is a popular spot for bouldering (rock climbing), and people who are keen to just walk around.

Unknown to us, the cold snap in the past few days had caused the area to see some snowfall. That means that the mountains, the roadsides, and much of the grassy plains we expected were coated in snow. It was a scenic time to visit.

We played snowball lawn bowls, kung fu snowball and threw snowballs of really high heights.
