NZ nats and locking ourselves out of the van...

April 8, 2016

It's been a while since we've updated the website. Since last time, we have been to Wellington for the NZ Ultimate Championships (Nationals) and spent Easter at the Coromandel peninsula. Alex is currently finishing off the webpage on our Coromandel trip, so I will let you know how nationals went.

Alex, playing for Auckland women's team Zodiac, placed 8th. She thought the team could've done a little better, but I know she had a great tournament winning most valuable offensive line player and defensive line player a number of times. My team, Groot, managed to get into the finals against the Wellington based team Yildcats, however we came just short and left with Silver. We spent the day after the tournament roaming Wellington seeing Zealandia (a bird sanctuary) and the Te Papa Museum before flying out that night.

At the Coromandel Peninsula, we had some type 2 fun when we locked ourselves out of the van. The keys were attached to the curtain wire across the back of the front seats while we both jumped out to watch an amazing sunrise above Cathedral Cove. Neither of us locked the sliding door, but nevertheless it locked behind us which we realised when I returned to get my jumper out. After quite a few minutes of brainstorming we had no ideas, but resorted to long sticks. The rear side window was open, but can only open about 10cm. Luckily for us, the curtain wire was made of a coiled wire which ended up being able to stretch quite a bit. We hooked a stick through the window onto the wire and pulled (slowly and for a long time) until the keys were close enough to unclip. It was a close call, but luckily we retrieved them just in time to eat some breakfast.

Look forward to Alex's full post on our Coromandel trip soon.
